Hone was founded after many years of practice.

We are a Landscape Architecture studio that appreciates the finer details of craft, and what it takes to apply learned experience—as referenced in the name of the practice.

How we work

Hone speaks to the art of refinement—of continually practicing, evolving, and elevating our craft. It’s a name that looks forward, grounded in a commitment to thoughtful design, enduring quality, and ongoing improvement.

We operate as a small-scale studio by design. This ensures every project receives focused attention from a dedicated team, while fostering a culture of design excellence and talent development.

Our clients are active collaborators—bringing their own creativity, insight, and direction to the process.

Together, we shape outcomes that are both purposeful and responsive.

With each project, we draw on well-tested insights and apply them with precision—editing, sharpening, and refining as we go.

Design Review & Advisory Services

From technical design review to clear and considered design thinking, we use our many years of practice, experience & trusted delivery to help clients and collaborators navigate project nuances and challenges. Our approach combines strategic insight with practical expertise to address challenges with clarity, precision, and care.

Master Planning & Strategy

By placing landscape values at the core, our master planning approach responds to the complexities of built environments with clarity and purpose. We work collaboratively to workshop robust design principles, key spatial strategies, and guiding frameworks that inform decision-making and future development. Together, we’ll prioritise, phase, and implement projects across short-, medium-, and long-term horizons to ensure meaningful, adaptive outcomes.

Place & Making

We are committed to making. Through hands-on collaboration with clients, communities, and fellow makers, we prototype and test spatial ideas and activations across a range of mediums. This iterative approach allows us to communicate design intent clearly, explore possibilities, and foster meaningful connections between people and place.

Volunteering & Community

Driven in our values, we are dedicated to sharing our skillsets to help our community to improve the built environment. We offer volunteering & upfront pro-bono design advice for community groups to help unlock the design and planning phases of their projects.

Our Values

Our values define how we wish to work alongside our clients collaborators and fellow creators.

We enjoy working alongside other makers with similar values to strengthen project outcomes and build more resilient communities.

We do the groundwork to tread lightly.

We begin by listening to the landscape—observing its systems, processes, and ecologies across scales. This early understanding fosters design flexibility, enabling us to intervene lightly or more decisively as needed, while remaining responsive to the landscape’s natural functions and environmental context.

We craft place-based solutions.

We respond to the unique character of each site—drawing on local knowledge, environmental insight, and community context. Our solutions are shaped by place, informed by how people live, interact, and connect with their surroundings. Through thoughtful observation and collaborative design, we create interventions that are contextually relevant, resilient, and enduring.

We build what nurtures the land.

We bring a strong technical insight and a forward-thinking mindset—understanding how landscapes are built and how they evolve. We prioritise low-impact, inventive approaches over standard construction methods, enhancing resilience and allowing the land to thrive. By shaping right-sized design briefs and applying clear principles and strategic moves, we deliver measurable outcomes that advance both environmental and community wellbeing.

We are honest.

We work with authenticity—valuing genuine partnerships and staying true to our word. Our approach is inclusive and considered, respecting the communities we work in and the contributions of others. While we bring professional expertise, we operate with a calm, collaborative manner that supports best-practice thinking.
